What is SEO and SEM?
SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimisation”. It’s the ‘science’ of trying to affect website visibility with search engines so your website is promoted up the search engine rankings. There are a couple of ways to achieve this – Organically or Unpaid, or through Paid advertising. Organically/unpaid refers to search results that are achieved without the website owners paying any money to advertise their website and improve rankings. This is the best way to rank on the search engine and the formula for how a search engine ranks you is a closely guarded secret. What we know is that search engines rank on relevance so the more relevant and fresh content you have on your website, the higher up you’ll rank! At Sushi Digital, we really love this idea because a website after all, is more than just a marketing tool – it should provide useful information to its intended audience!
SEM stands for “Search Engine Marketing”. It’s a form of internet or digital marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility through paid means such as advertising, Google Ads, PPC listings (Pay Per Click), optimisation of website and other website advertising.
How do I get listed on Google and the other search engines?
First thing you need is a website! Once you have that sorted, you need to make sure that your website’s code allows for search engine bots (Google’s is called Googlebot) to crawl, follow and index your website. If you’re unsure if your settings are allowing this, send us your website address and we’ll check it for you.
Step two, you’ll then want to make sure your site is verified with the major search engines webmasters!

Is it true that you can 'hide' key terms in the code so my site will rank higher?
Ah we get this A LOT! Back in the dark old days, web programmers use to hide code and text to trick search engines into thinking their website was relevant. Flooding keywords repeatedly in the background, hiding key terms by using font colours the same as the background so it’s invisible or near invisible were all common practices back in the very old days. I remember this in the late 90s! What’s most surprising is I’m still seeing it being done today! It’s a definite NO-NO and you’ll be in the bad books of any of the major search engines. What does 'on-page' SEO mean?
‘On-page SEO’ is Search Engine Optimisation strategies made to the website to make it as search engine friendly as possible. SEO on-page elements include title tags, image attributes, heading tags, content and meta descriptions are all examples of on-page SEO features. Your website designing company in Australia should do this as part of their build of your website but many do not. Insist on this as you’ll be able to affect content but many of these elements are only editable by the web developer. Many open source website builder will charge extra for this service so be aware of it when you’re shopping around. How do you track the effectiveness of SEO?
You can track how effective your SEO campaign is by checking your website’s traffic stats, looking at how your website’s search engine ranking is fairing, analysing the conversion numbers coming from your website! Can I have a bunch of different domain names and add the same website on each of them?
Not unless you want to be penalised! And who wants that?! Duplicate sites, mirrored sites and funky stuff that try to lure viewers but take them elsewhere is not only seriously uncool, it is another strict no-no and unacceptable, check out the Google Webmaster’s Guidelines for more info.
What you can legitimately do is have another web address that points to your main site through what is called a ’301 redirect’ and this is OK and the only way around this. If you’ve changed your business name, have a new domain, set up a more SEO-friendly domain name, that’s cool – just get your sys admin to set up a 301 redirect so its done properly. How do I get on a Google map?
You can go directly to Google Marker to add a new marker for a place (e.g. your business, your house, club, school etc.) or submit your business in Google Places. Once the good staff at Google approve your listing, it will automatically show in Google map, voila!
What do I need to set up a Google+ account for my business?
Glad you asked, this is seriously cool! First, you need to create a Google account. If you already have an account, follow these instructions:
- Click the drop-down icon in your Gmail profile located at right top of your screen
- Click View profile, you will be redirected to the plus.google.com page
- On the left side of your profile page, you’ll see icon go to more > pages
- On the page dashboard screen, in the upper right corner click “CREATE NEW PAGE”
- That’s it! Just follow the instruction once you click the Create new page, easy peasy!

Our Sushi Digital Logo Design projects involve the following stages:

What will I need to provide for a logo design?

What's the difference between a print logo and a web logo?
A print logo uses a CMYK colour model. CMYK is typically the preferred format and is commonly used by your local print shop. C (Cyan), (M) (Magenta), Y (Yellow) and K (Black) are the standard ink colours print shops mix together to print your logo for business cards and other marketing materials.
A web logo uses an RGB color model to be viewed on our computer monitors. R (Red), G (Green) and B (Blue) are the colours the monitor mixes to display colours on screen.
Can you do banner advertising to put on websites?
Absolutely! We can create custom static and animated banners for digital advertising.
Will my logo or graphic design be scalable?
Yes, we design your logo as purely vector so you can scale it as much as you wish whilst retaining perfect quality. Just let us know and we’ll provide the vector files to you.
I'd like to purchase a .com.au domain, what do I need to provide to register it?
If you want to register an Australian Domain Name (such as yourbusinessname.com.au or yourbusinessname.net.au), the following requirements will apply:
- you must be an Australian registered company, or business with a registered business number (ABN, BRN, BN, CN etc.), and
- the domain name you order should have a solid relationship to the business it represents

I need to edit something on my website but I don't have access to the Content Management System (CMS), what can I do?
You can first of all retrieve your lost password through the forgotten password link feature on your website. Go to your admin panel (http://yourdomain.com.au/wp-admin), click on the forgot password link, enter your email address and a new password will be sent once you’ve been confirmed.
